The Safe Management of Rhinitis of Pregnancy

Rhinitis of Pregnancy is defined as nasal congestion present for 6 or more weeks during pregnancy without other signs of respiratory tract infection and with no known allergic cause, disappearing within 2 weeks after delivery. It affects between 11% and 32% of pregnant women, and can start in almost any gestational week. This article reviews the aetiologies, differential diagnosis and safe medical treatment of Rhinitis of Pregnancy based on the medical literature and current FDA recommendations. Drug safety in all three trimesters is discussed.
