Identification of Maintainers And Restorers For Development of Potential Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Hybrids For Tarai Region..

Hybrid rice technology is a potent option for increasing rice production for hybrid rice. Major limitation is the non-availability of restorer and maintainer lines. Present investigation embodies the identification of restorer and maintainer lines for Tarai regions of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Field experiment, comprised of hundred rice hybrids derived from Two CMS lines (IR 58025A and Pusa 6A) and fifty tester (male) following L x T mating design, were conducted during Kharif season 2010 at Norman Ernest Borlaug Crop Research Centre, G. B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar,. Genotypes were categorized as Restorers (> 80% Spikelet fertility), Partial restorers (20 to 79% Spikelet fertility), Weak maintainers (10 -20% Spikelet fertility) and Maintainers (< 10 % Spikelet fertility). Out of 50 male lines 19 lines behaved like restorer and 3 lines behaved like maintainer with both of CMS (IR58025A and Pusa 6A) line..
